Columbia was selected by the Gwinnett County Department of Transportation (GCDOT) to provide professional services for the intersection improvements of Rosebud Road at Cooper Road, as well as the creation of center turn lanes and deceleration lanes for Bay Creek Middle School and Trip Elementary School on those roads. The 1.3-mile project comprised of the design of left turn lanes on all four legs of the intersection, right turn lanes on Rosebud, a pedestrianized traffic signal at Rosebud and Cooper, a vertical curve correction along Cooper west of the intersection with Rosebud, center turn lanes on Rosebud and Cooper near the school driveways, and school zone flashers on the north and west legs of the intersection. Cost savings were realized for these projects by combining them so that improvements to the intersection would not be immediately replaced months later by the safety improvements for the school entrances.
