Overbend Trail Culvert Replacement, Gwinnett Co., GA

This project included installation of proposed six barrel 10’x12’ RCB which will be the largest culvert installed by Gwinnett County DWR. It also included raising of Overbend Trail by 4’ to carry Level Creek without overtopping for the 100-year storm.  The culvert crossing services a one-way-in, one-way-out neighborhood which was overtopping an average of once every two years which did not allow for residents, school buses, or emergency vehicles access to around 75 homes.  An onsite detour was designed to allow for two lanes of traffic to remain open at all times during construction.

A Nationwide permitted was applied for and granted for the project through the US Army Corps. of Engineers.   The project was also permitted through Gwinnett County Planning and Development and received a Commercial Development Permit.  It also included a no-rise flood study to show that the stream would not be adversely impacted at any cross-section along the creek.  Columbia’s role included the survey, design, permitting, construction administration, and construction inspection for the project.  The project is scheduled to begin construction 2nd quarter of 2016 and end in the 1st quarter of 2017.
