Columbia assembled a team to provide full A/E design and permitting, construction management, and field supervision for the City’s new Public Works Headquarters. The project involved converting an existing 21,000 SF fleet maintenance facility on 3.72 acres into office and storage space for the Public Works and Utility Department. The Columbia Team was chosen based on our ability to deliver an aggressive project schedule on a lean budget. Sustainable development is important to the City and we were able to incorporate low cost “green” elements including no net increase in stormwater runoff, addition of landscape areas with native plants, energy efficient upgrades, bike racks and street furniture, and employee amenities. Site elements including a police impound yard, police and public works storage sheds, utility pole racks, and security fencing required close coordination with Georgia Power due to a high voltage transmission line bisecting the site. Anticipated project completion is April 2010.
