Columbia was selected by the Gwinnett County Department of Transportation (GCDOT) to provide engineering services for the Medlock Bridge Road Widening Project. The scope of the project comprised of the design of widening approximately 1.9 miles Medlock Bridge Road from a 2-lane rural roadway section to 3 and 4-lane urban roadway beginning at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard (PIB) and ending at SR 141 (Peachtree Parkway). The project included two (2) pedestrian intersections for Medlock Bridge Road at PIB and SR 141, 6,000 linear feet (LF) of 10’ multi-use path (MUP) on west side, 12,000 LF of 5’ sidewalks on east side, and a redesign of slip ramp access of SR141 North from Medlock Bridge Road at its intersection. Cost savings included elimination of 2,900 LF of MUP from South Old Peachtree Road to PIB and replaced with 5’ sidewalk that allowed all work to be contained in existing right-of-way limits.
