Columbia Engineering was the prime consultant for the Lake Windsor Spillway Rehabilitation project, an exempt High-Hazard Dam owned and operated by Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources. The existing gabion spillway channel had eroded through a head-cut to the end of the existing concrete chute.
Project design included a full hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of the 23 foot tall dam and outlet works (drop inlet and concrete chute spillway) to provide spillway capacity to safely pass the 25% Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP) event with freeboard for wave action. The project proposed an extension of the concrete chute spillway and design of a SAF stiling basin, construction of a concrete wave wall to provide required freeboard, and siphon spillway system to drain the lake.
