Columbia is providing engineering and survey services for a 1,030 linear foot (LF) sanitary sewer upgrade project in the Britain Woods and Sweetwater Oaks Subdivisions for the Gwinnett County Dept. of Water Resources. The existing 8-inch gravity sanitary sewer main consisting of ABS truss and ductile iron pipe (DIP) currently experiences overflows and needs frequent cleaning. An analysis of the service area and CCTV investigation concluded that the existing main is both undersized and has areas where joint separation has occurred. The proposed design calls for pipe bursting at 360 LF section to 12-inch high density polyethylene (HDPE) due to site constraints and open trench replacement of the lower 670 LF section with 12-inch DIP. Project is in the design stage and is on-going.
