Columbia teamed with Komada, LLC and Merrick & Company as surveyor and design civil engineer on this 5.4 acre design/build project at Fort Stewart, Georgia for the US Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District. This facility is used to train and test soldiers to detect, identify, engage and defeat stationary personnel targets in a tactical array and to provide Military Police marksmanship training. Included 6 buildings, latrine pad, 15 shooting lanes (each with 8 stationary targets), vehicular access drives, parking, and a stormwater management pond. Columbia worked closely with the team to ensure proper site layout, and most critically, adequate line-of-sight from each shooting position to its associated target locations. Particular attention was paid to the above grade and below grade target emplacements and design of the required target berms for the proper caliber bullets to be used so as to prevent over design of the berms.
